WELCOME TO SEL PUBLISHING HOUSE Sel Publishing was founded in 1990 and remains independent to this day. It defined its aim as providing the Turkish reader with both the original and translated literary works of contemporary writers. In the early 1990s Turkey's social life was marked by significant political changes, transformations and crises. And as Sel felt the necessity to determine its editorial view on those changes it published political and journalistic works on social matters like anti-democratic policies in Turkey including the problems faced by Kurdish people. In the mean time, the company developed an impessive list of World Literature by authors such as Pascal Quignard, Truman Capote, George Perec, G. Cabrera Infante, Guillaume Apollaniare, Regis Debray, Alain de Botton, Michel Faber, André Aciman, Edgar Allan Poe, Henri Michaux, Andre Gide, Marcel Ayme, Raymond Queneau, William Golding, Marguerite Duras, Nick Hornby, Alan Bennett, Roland Barthes, Dominique Fernandez, Miguel de Unamuno, Andrei Platonov, Cees Nooteboom, Fernando Pessoa, Javier Marias, Eduardo Galeano, William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, David Harvey, Marshall Berman, György Lukacs... etc. Sel Publishing is home to about 500 excellent books now and has mainly nine series: "Literature", "Art and Art History", "Poetry", "The Corner Stones of the Turkish Culture", "Women Studies", "Witnessing the History", "Theory and Survey Studies", "Journal", "Erotic Literature". The company's head office is located in Istanbul where a staff of ten produces a program of 60 new titles each year. Sel had been awarded with Freedom of Thought and Speech Prize by Turkish Publishers Association and The Publishing House of Year by Memet Fuat Awards in 2009; Freedom to Publish Special Award by International Publishers Association (IPA) in 2010.
